As a growing and progressive GAA club in Derry City, Steelstown Brian Ógs strive to promote Gaelic Football and Irish culture in Greater Shantallow, Derry City. From our establishment as an underage team in 1987, we have grown substantially in the years since. We now have one of the largest GAA memberships in Ulster, providing training from the age of four years old and membership of a lifelong community.
Our home pitch, Pairc Bhrid opened in 2003 and we now cater for over 20 teams. We have six senior teams, with our senior men and senior women playing in Division one football in Derry and supported by reserve teams in men and women and a mens thirds team and Gaelic For Mothers & Others team for women. Our mens team were All Ireland Intermediate Champions in February 2022 and our ladies team Ulster Intermediate Champions in 2023.
Despite the progress of our teams, our most pressing challenge is space to train and play. We urgently need to develop an additional full sized pitch. In late 2023, Derry City & Strabane District Council granted us a long term lease of land to develop a new full sized pitch in Ballyarnett Country Park. This will take a lot of hard work from our members, a challenge we will relish. We look forward to the support of our own members and the wider community to make this dream of a new pitch, a reality.
A major fundraising draw will launch in summer 2024 to help us achieve this. Club members can contact any committee member to get involved in helping.
