U17 Girls and Management Team crowned Advanced Care Services Under 17 ‘A’ Shield winners

Massive Congratulations to our U17 Girls and Management Team who were crowned Advanced Care Services Under 17 ‘A’ Shield winners on Sunday afternoon following a strong display of football despite the atrocious conditions against a very strong Dungiven team. Both teams managed to serve up an absorbing encounter in Foreglen, with our girls coming away with a 3:09 – 1:04 victory. The quality on show from both teams was of the highest order with some of the long-range scores from our forwards and free taking from Caoimhe O’Kane just a few to mention. It was a cagey start from both teams but 2 quick fire goals from our girls allowed them to settle which allowed them to go in at half time 2:05 – 0:02 ahead. Playing against a very strong wind in the 2nd half, our girls knew Dungiven would come out fighting and that proved to be the case. 2 points and a converted penalty saw the scoreboard read 2:05 – 1:04 but from the resulting kickout our girls created a wonderful free flowing move up the field with the ball ending up with Shannon McCartney who made no mistake of finding the net and allowing our girls to settle once again. Wonderful teamwork and interplay saw our girls tap on a further 4 points before the referee brought the game to a finish and set off the jubilant scenes at the end. A special word of congratulation to our very own Ellie Williams who was named player of the match! Unfortunately for Dungiven, there can be only one winner and our girls managed to find the important scores when it really mattered. Thanks to both clubs for bringing such strong support. A just reward for all the hard work and dedication from all the players, management team and parents.
